Department of Cybernetics and Robotics

Students Scientific Society KoNaR

The Scientific Society of Roboticists KoNaR started its activity at the Faculty of Electronics of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in autumn 2003. From the very beginning, its activities have been inextricably linked with the Department of Fundamentals of Cybernetics and Robotics, which was transformed in 2014 into the Department of Cybernetics and Robotics. In a natural way, the interests of the Society members oscillate around robotics. This is, however, such an interdisciplinary area that not only a roboticist, but also an automation specialist, computer scientist, electronics engineer, mechanic, or even mathematician and graphic designer will find a field for action. Working in the Society gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge in practice, develop your skills, and implement your dream projects. The flagship projects completed by the Society over the years include:

  • construction of 30 Eurobots - minisumo robots, which were commissioned by the Mayor of Wrocław as part of the campaign promoting Wrocław as the seat of the European Institute of Technology;
  • construction of social robots in the form of ROMAN, Samuel and Balbina heads, capable of expressing emotions and interacting with humans, the second of which was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Wroclaw's Technical Universities;</li >
  • construction of robots Calliope, Ariadna, Robotic Chessboard - which have successfully represented Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in national and international robotics arenas.

In addition to the implementation of projects, an important activity of the members of the Society is to promote knowledge in the field of robotics. They fulfill this task by:

  • participation in various actions promoting science, such as Student Activity Days, Scientific Picnic of the Polish Radio, educational fairs;
  • work with young people for whom they organize robotics workshops, where not only the practical skills of building robots are taught, but also theoretical classes explaining the basics of their operation are conducted;
  • organization of the Robotic Arena Competitions, which are a continuation of the Minisumo Open Robot Competitions organized for the first time in 2003 in one of the training rooms of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and the last edition of which was carried out on a grand scale on the main floor of the Centennial Hall in Wrocław, where over 250 robots from 12 countries competed in 18 task types.

KoNaR members also take care of their relationships on a personal level by organizing various social outings, cleaning the Society lab, and finally, by taking part in the legendary Offsite Seminars organized in the House of Creative Work "Limba" in Karpacz.
